SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Belle basketball team begins conference play this week as they take on the two time defending national champions, Lubbock Christian, in a two game series and the season opener. The first game will be played on Thursday, January 14 at home in San Angelo at 5:30 p.m., and will travel to Lubbock on Saturday, January 16 at 2 p.m.

The last time that these two teams played each other was on March 5, 2020, where the Lady Chaps defeated the Belles in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament in Frisco, Texas, 91-65. The Chaps lead the all-time series, 7-0.
Scouting Lubbock Christian:
The Chaps enter the series with a 4-0 record after defeating the University of Texas-Tyler Patriots at the beginning of the year in two games, winning the first game, 73-26, and the second game, 69-48. Allie Schulte went for a combined 35 points for both games, 15 in the first game and 20 points in the second game. Schulte would finish the weekend going 12-16 from the field, 8-11 from the three point line, and 3-4 from the free throw line. Schulte would grab 12 total rebounds against the Patriots, six on offense and six on defense, as well as grabbing five assists, two blocks, and three steals.
Emma Middleton also contributed on both offense and defense for the Chaps, scoring 22 points total, shooting 6-9 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line. Middleton grabbed five defensive rebounds for LCU, along with four assists, three blocks, and two steals against the Patriots.
Lubbock Christian is currently ranked second behind Texas A&M Commerce on offense in the conference, averaging 74.3 points per game, with TAMUC averaging 76 points a game. LCU is ranked first in defense in the conference, only allowing an average of 43.3 points scored. Schulte is currently ranked sixth in the conference in the scoring category, averaging 15.3 points a game, and is leading the conference in field goal percentage with a .724 average, scoring 21 field goals on 29 attempts. Schulte also leads the three point percentage in the conference with a .692 percentage, making 9 three pointers out of 13 attempts. Lubbock Christian also ranks second in the conference in turnover margin and first in the Assist to Turnover Ratio at plus 1.46.
Belles Overview:
This will be the first game that the Belles have played since playing the Texas Tech Lady Red Raiders in an exhibition game on December 9, 2020. Senior
Lana Marov led the Belles offensively, scoring 14 total points against the Red Raiders, and grabbing 10 rebounds for the Blue and Gold as well, registering three offensive and seven defensive rebounds.
Sadie Misner scored 10 points for the Belles in her first collegiate game as a true freshman, grabbing two assists as well as shooting 4-5 from the free throw line.
Madeline Stephens was a force in the paint as she also grabbed 10 rebounds for ASU, two offensive and eight defensive rebounds, scoring six points as a true freshman as well. Stephens also had one block against the Red Raiders.

The Eagles are currently 2-2 overall, with a 2-2 conference record after defeating the Cameron Aggies in a two game series, winning the first game, 70-67, and winning the second game, 53-47. Brooklin Bain and Maddison Collyer Ingraham are currently leading the Eagles offense, with both players both scoring 48 points on the season so far, and both players averaging 12 points a game. Bain currently leads the team in rebounds with 27 total rebounds on the season, four offensive and 23 defensive rebounds, and averages 6.8 rebounds a game for the Eagles. Oklahoma Christian is currently ranked fifth in the conference on defense, only allowing 60.3 points per game. The Eagles are also third in shooting percentages in both beyond the three point line and in the field, shooting .333 from the three point line and .430 from the field, trailing behind both Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M in both categories.
