JOPLIN, Mo. – The Angelo State women's basketball team kept things close for three quarters, but a 16-0 run in the fourth propelled Missouri Southern to an 83-66 victory over the Rambelles Thursday afternoon in Joplin.
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
- The Rambelles and Lions went back and forth during the opening five minutes of the contest, Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant's third bucket of the game tied the game 10-10 with 5:38 remaining in the quarter.
- The Rambelles would go scoreless for over two minutes as the Lions pushed ahead 18-10.
- Payton Brown scored a pull up jumper to bring the Belles back within seven, finishing the quarter trailing 21-14.
- McGhee-Pleasant and Sawyer Lloyd scored two quick buckets to pull the Belles within three, 21-18.
- The Rambelles pulled within one, 28-27, as Madisen Honea hit a triple with 7:23 remaining in the half.
- Missouri Southern would go on 11-4 run over the next four minutes to stretch their lead back to eight, 39-31.
- The Rambelles would not score in the final 3:40 as the Lions took a 43-31 lead into the half.
- A Madeline Stephens triple would end an 8-0 run from the Lions, as their lead sat at 45-34 with 7:49 remaining.
- Landry Morrow scored her first points of the season with 2:33 remaining in the third, the Rambelles still down nine, 54-45.
- Lloyd, Brown, and Morrow would all add buckets as the third quarter finished with the Belles still down ten, 61-51.
- Brown's fifth points of the fourth quarter pulled the Belles within six, 65-59, with 7:18 remaining in the contest.
- Nine straight points by the Lions would separate the teams 76-61 with just over four minutes remaining.
- Honea would hit a triple to end the 16-0 run by the Lions with 2:09 to go, the Belles trailing 83-64.
GAME STATS
- Lloyd led the way again for the Rambelles, scoring 18 points, pulling down seven rebounds.
- Brown put up 13 points and seven rebounds while McGhee-Pleasant had 14 points and five boards.
- Honea rounded out the double-digit scorers as she had a career high 12 points in the loss.
- The Rambelles were limited to 37.3 percent from the field in the loss. MSSU shot 50 percent from the field, 32-64, and 92.3 percent from the free throw line, 12-13.
- The Rambelles outrebounded the Lions in the matchup, 41-39, including 17 offensive boards.
- The Blue and Gold had 16 assists and 16 turnovers in the contest, only scoring four points off the bench, while MSSU had 20 assists and had 24 points from the bench.
