SAN ANGELO, Texas – With the official start to the 2022-23 season just under two months away, the Angelo State women's basketball team recognizes seven new faces to their squad.
00 Landry Morrow | Guard | 5'8" | Ackerly, Texas | Sands HS
Morrow was a jack of all trades at Sands High School, she was a four-time cross country state qualifier, four-time track state qualifier, one-act play state runner-up, and her class Valedictorian. Her teams won the 1A 2022 State Championship in basketball and Track (2021 & 2022).
"We are excited to add Landry to our team. Landry is a 5'8 guard who will make an immediate impact on our team and be a special addition," said Rambelles Head Coach
Alesha Ellis. "She is a poised, competitive, tough, smart player and an even better person. She fits the mold of what we are trying to accomplish both on and off the floor. She is going to be fun to watch this year. She has won state in basketball and track and we love her winning mentality."
3 Briley Merket | Guard | 5'11" | Canadian, Texas | Canadian HS
Merket comes to ASU courtesy of Canadian, Texas. The 5'11" guard was a two-time co-district MVP and was a TGCA Academic All-State player.
"Briley is a two-time All-State player who is a taller guard that will give us length on the floor," said Ellis. "She has a beautiful shot and we also look forward to her rebounding ability. She comes from a competitive family and is the little sister to our former All-American player
Maci Merket who is now our assistant coach."
4 Abbie Crow | Guard | 5'9" | Lubbock, Texas | Lubbock Christian HS
Crow adds another All-State kid to the Belles roster. She was a two-time state champion and the district MVP at Lubbock Christian School.
"Abbie is just an all-out hard worker. She has a shooters mentality and brings a lot of energy to our team. She is a kid that is a sponge on the floor and soaking up all the information that she can. It will be a lot of fun to watch her grow and develop this year," said Ellis.
13 Keniah Williams | Center | 6'4" | Georgetown, Texas | Georgetown HS
Williams comes to the Belles via Georgetown, Texas, adding length to the roster. Williams was also voted as a TABC All-Star in her time at Georgetown.
Ellis on Williams: "Niah's ability to run the floor and finish is something we had to have. At 6'4", we are very impressed with how she can finish at the rim, rebound, and run. She is a lot more versatile of a player than you would think of for a 6'4" player. Her development this year is a big key to just how far this team could go, as she is a game changer with her length offensively and defensively."
15 Kenslee Konarik | Forward | 6'1" | Salado, Texas | Salado HS
Konarik comes to ASU after being coached by her mother, Diane, at Salado where she was named District MVP and Sixth man of the year.
"Kenslee is another versatile player we expect to be able to do multiple things on the floor," said Ellis. "She is a 6'1 player that has a great shot from the outside but also can play the post position. Her ability to do many things is very exciting and will be key in some of the mismatches that she will create on the floor."
22 Olivia Pedigo | Forward | 6'0" | Bells, Texas | Bells HS
Pedigo adds versatility to the Belles lineup. A four-year basketball letterman and starter, Pedigo was also a state-ranked thrower in the discus and a regional finalist in the shot put.
"We wanted Liv to join our team because of her size and strength on the inside and her ability to rebound and finish. She is a coachable kid who has the potential to be a very dominant player on the floor. She will immediately add to our size on the inside and continue to make us a much tougher team," said Ellis.
24 Alexandra Bednarczyk | Forward | 6'0" | Baldwinsville, NY | Charles W. Baker HS
Ellis on Bednarczyk: "This is a player we saw a lot of potential in. She is a 6'0 versatile player that will be able to do multiple things on the floor. We love her ability to take advantage of mismatches on the floor. She is a basketball junky and always wants to learn more about the game. We really look forward to her development this season."
