Rambelles Return Home, Face No. 4 Texas Woman’s, UT Tyler

SAN ANGELO, Texas – On the heels of a four-game road trip, the Angelo State women's basketball team returns home for a pair of crucial games this week against fourth-ranked Texas Woman's on Thursday, Feb. 16th and UT Tyler on Saturday, Feb 18th.

NEED TO KNOW
  • The Rambelles went 1-1 last week, wrapping up their four-game road trip, losing a tight contest to Cameron 56-54 before scoring 33 points in the fourth to down Midwestern State 76-61.
  • Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant leads the Rambelles in scoring, her 16.3 points per game currently ranks third most in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Sawyer Lloyd (6th) and Madeline Stephens (10th) also rank top 10 in the LSC averaging 15.0 and 13.3 points per game respectively.
  • The Rambelles have made rebounding a staple in the way they play, holding the top ranking in the conference and ranking 19th in the nation averaging 42.8 boards per game.
  • McGhee-Pleasant (3rd), Stephens (T7th), and Lloyd (T7th) each rank in the top 10 in rebounding individually in the LSC, averaging 8.7 and 7.8 (each) boards per game.
  • The trio also all rank top eight in field goal percentage, led by Stephens' .506, the second-best mark in the LSC.
  • Lloyd also ranks first in the assist's category, averaging 4.8 per game, her 2.1 assist-turnover ratio is the second-best mark in the conference.
  • Lloyd ranks 26th in NCAA DII with her 5.0 assists per game and is 18th in assists with 119. She also ranks seventh in steals with 76 and is 10th in steals per game averaging 3.04.
  • Lloyd and freshman Keniah Williams both rank top 10 in the LSC in defensive categories, Lloyd is first in steals, averaging 3.0 per game and Williams ranks sixth in blocks, averaging 1.2 a contest.
  • Lloyd currently ranks fifth all-time for steals in a single season with 76. She is five away from passing Michelle Schuler (80) for fourth most in a single season. The current single-season record is held by Marquita Daniels with 103.
  • The Rambelles are averaging 68.2 points per game, shooting 40.1 percent from the field (7th), 28.9 percent from three (10th), and 68.6 percent from the free throw line (12th).
  • The 68.2 points per contest is the fourth best mark in the LSC, on the defensive end, the Rambelles hold opponents to 61.4 points a game (7th in the LSC).
  • As a team the Rambelles hold opponents to a 34.7 clip from the field, that is the 12th best in NCAA DII women's basketball and the best mark in the conference.
 
ANGELO STATE vs TEXAS WOMAN'S
  • The Pioneers enter Thursday's contest riding a 21-game winning streak and broke their school record for most wins in a single season last week (23) with four regular season games remaining.
  • Texas Woman's is the only undefeated team in conference action, hosting a perfect 18-0 record.
  • TWU is led by LSC Preseason Player of the Year Ashley Ingram who averages 15.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest.
  • Sadie Moyer is another name to lookout for as she is right behind Ingram, averaging 14.3 points per game, shooting 35 percent from beyond the arc.
  • The Pioneers have the second-best offense and defense in the conference, averaging 69.9 points while holding opponents to 58.3 points.
  • TWU has escaped some close contests en route to their perfect conference record thus far, escaping the New Mexico road trip with a two-point win over Eastern and a three-point win over Western.
  • The Rambelles hold the all-time advantage over the Pioneers, 44-25 and have won 10 of the last 11 matchups between the sides, with the teams splitting the two most recent contests.
 
ANGELO STATE vs UT TYLER
  • The Patriots begin their trek to San Angelo winners of their last three contests with a matchup scheduled with UT Permian Basin slated for Thursday.
  • UT Tyler's only conference losses to this point were on the road against St. Mary's 58-54 and Texas A&M-Kingsville 61-46.
  • The Patriots and Pioneers face off twice in the final week with conference implications on the line.
  • Three Patriots average double figures, led by Destini Whitehead who scores 13.3 points per contest.
  • Lovisa Hevinder scores 10.2 points and pulls in a team best 6.1 rebounds a contest.
  • The Rambelles and Patriots have only squared off three times, with the Rambelles taking two of the contests, most recently a 57-54 victory in San Angelo last season.
 
LSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
  • Lloyd and McGhee-Pleasant were named the LSC defensive and offensive players of the week after the Rambelles downed West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian earlier in the season, marking Lloyd's third consecutive defensive player of the week and her fifth overall.
  • Lloyd was recognized with her fourth player of the week honor after filling up the stat sheet against Eastern and Western New Mexico. She averaged 15 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals, being named the defensive player of the week for the third time.
  • Lloyd earned her third LSC player of the week honor after wins over UTPB and Schreiner before the winter break. This included a contest with a career high 17 rebounds (vs UTPB) followed up by a season high six steal game against Schreiner.
  • Stephens and Lloyd were named the Lone Star Conference offensive and defensive players of the week following their efforts in the wins over TAMUK, TAMIU in week four.
  • McGhee-Pleasant scored 21 points and pulled in eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week in the third week of the season.
  • Payton Brown had a 13-point, six rebound, and three steal game that saw her honored as the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week after the Rambelles upset win over Eckerd College in week three.
  • Lloyd averaged 22 points and eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week in week one.
