NEED TO KNOW
- The Rambelles went 1-0 in the final week of the regular season, stifling UTPB's offense in a 71-55 home win.
- Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant leads the Rambelles in scoring, her 16.3 points per game currently ranks third most in the Lone Star Conference.
- Sawyer Lloyd (5th) and Madeline Stephens (10th) also rank top 10 in the LSC averaging 15.5 and 13.6 points per game respectively.
- The Rambelles have made rebounding a staple in the way they play, holding the top ranking in the conference and ranking 18th in the nation averaging 42.4 boards per game.
- McGhee-Pleasant (3rd), Stephens (8th), and Lloyd (9th) each rank in the top 10 in rebounding individually in the LSC, averaging 8.8, 7.8, and 7.7 boards per game.
- The trio also all rank top eight in field goal percentage, led by Stephens' .493, the second-best mark in the LSC.
- Lloyd also ranks second in the assist's category, averaging 4.6 per game, her 2.2 assist-turnover ratio is the best mark in the conference.
- Lloyd ranks 31th in NCAA DII with her 4.5 assists per game and is 28th in assists with 130. She also ranks 13th in steals with 80 and is 13th in steals per game averaging 2.86.
- Lloyd and freshman Keniah Williams both rank top 10 in the LSC in defensive categories, Lloyd is first in steals, averaging 2.9 per game and Williams ranks eighth in blocks, averaging 1.2 a contest.
- Lloyd currently ranks tied for fourth all-time for steals in a single season with 80. She is 12 away from passing Marquita Daniels 2018-19 record (92) for third most in a single season. The current single-season record is held by Daniels from the 2017-18 season with 103.
- Lloyd is also on track to become the all-time assists leader in Rambelles history in the coming weeks. The junior guard currently has 359 in her career and the current Angelo State record sits at 375 (Michelle Schuler, 1987-91).
- The Rambelles are averaging 67.9 points per game, shooting 39.8 percent from the field (7th), 29.1 percent from three (9th), and 69.8 percent from the free throw line (10th).
- The 67.9 points per contest is the fifth best mark in the LSC, on the defensive end, the Rambelles hold opponents to 61.5 points a game (7th in the LSC).
- As a team the Rambelles hold opponents to a 34.6 clip from the field, that is the 11th best in NCAA DII women's basketball and the best mark in the conference.
ANGELO STATE vs CAMERON
- The Rambelles were swept in the regular season series against the Aggies, losing by a combined six points in the two games, 61-57, 56-54.
- The Aggies finished the season 13-15 overall and 10-12 in conference play, finding their way into the tournament via a three-team tiebreaker that saw UTPB's season come to a close.
- Alena Wilson, Korie Allensworth, and Katie King all average in double figures for the Aggies, led by Wilson's 10.9 points and 8.2 rebounds.
- King has been huge for Cameron in the two previous matchups with the Rambelles, averaging 18.5 points, six assists, and 5.5 rebounds.
- The Aggies have won the last three contests over the Rambelles, dating back to the 2019 season for the last ASU victory.
- Cameron enters the LSC tournament on the heels of two consecutive losses on the road to Texas A&M-Kingsville and Midwestern State.
TOURNAMENT FIELD
(3) UT Tyler vs (6) West Texas A&M
- The Rambelles would play the winner of this matchup on Saturday, Mar. 4th at noon should they best Cameron in round one.
- UTT won the only regular season matchup between the two sides 76-54 at Louise Herrington Patriot Center in Tyler.
(1) Texas Woman's vs (8) St. Edward's
- TWU won the LSC title outright, were the east division champions, and won both regular season contests between the two sides, 64-53 and 70-51.
(4) Lubbock Christian vs (5) Texas A&M-Kingsville
- LCU earned a share of the west division title, but were given the four-seed based on the tiebreaker policy.
- In their only contest during the regular season, the Lady Chaps downed TAMUK 76-61 on the road in Kingsville.
LSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
- McGhee-Pleasant earned her third player of the week award (first defensive) after leading the Rambelle defense that allowed only 55 points on 27.9 percent shooting in their sole game in the last week of the regular season.
- Lloyd earned her second offensive player of the week award and sixth total after averaging 25 points per game against Texas Woman's and UT Tyler. Lloyd set a career mark in an upset with over fourth-ranked TWU, scoring 34 points on an efficient 13-22 shooting.
- Lloyd and McGhee-Pleasant were named the LSC defensive and offensive players of the week after the Rambelles downed West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian earlier in the season, marking Lloyd's third consecutive defensive player of the week and her fifth overall.
- Lloyd was recognized with her fourth player of the week honor after filling up the stat sheet against Eastern and Western New Mexico. She averaged 15 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals, being named the defensive player of the week for the third time.
- Lloyd earned her third LSC player of the week honor after wins over UTPB and Schreiner before the winter break. This included a contest with a career high 17 rebounds (vs UTPB) followed up by a season high six steal game against Schreiner.
- Stephens and Lloyd were named the Lone Star Conference offensive and defensive players of the week following their efforts in the wins over TAMUK, TAMIU in week four.
- McGhee-Pleasant scored 21 points and pulled in eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week in the third week of the season.
- Payton Brown had a 13-point, six rebound, and three steal game that saw her honored as the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week after the Rambelles upset win over Eckerd College in week three.
- Lloyd averaged 22 points and eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week in week one.
