SAN ANGELO, Texas – On the heels of their first Lone Star Conference Tournament title victory since 2016, the Angelo State women's basketball team is set to host the first South Central Regional in school history, matching up with West Texas A&M in the first round, set for a Friday tip at 7:30 p.m.

- The Rambelles picked up three wins last week en route to their first LSC Tournament Championship since the 2016 season.
- This is the Rambelles first time in the South Central Regional since the 2018-19 season where they advanced all the way to the Regional final.
- Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant leads the Rambelles in scoring, her 16.0 points per game currently ranks fourth most in the Lone Star Conference.
- Sawyer Lloyd (5th) and Madeline Stephens (9th) also rank top 10 in the LSC averaging 15.7 and 13.9 points per game respectively.
- The Rambelles have made rebounding a staple in the way they play, holding the top ranking in the conference and ranking 19th in the nation averaging 42.4 boards per game.
- McGhee-Pleasant (3rd), Lloyd (7th), and Stephens (9th) each rank in the top 10 in rebounding individually in the LSC, averaging 8.8, 8.0, and 7.9 boards per game.
- The trio also all rank top eight in field goal percentage, led by Stephens' .490, the second-best mark in the LSC.
- Lloyd also ranks second in the assist's category, averaging 4.8 per game, her 2.2 assist-turnover ratio is the best mark in the conference.
- Lloyd ranks 25th in NCAA DII with her 4.8 assists per game and is 14th in assists with 148. She also ranks 9th in steals with 86 and is 17th in steals per game averaging 2.77.
- Lloyd, McGhee-Pleasant, and freshman Keniah Williams all rank top 10 in the LSC in defensive categories, Lloyd is first in steals, averaging 2.9 per game, McGhee-Pleasant ranks eighth in blocks with 1.1 a game, and Williams ranks ninth in blocks, averaging 1.0 a contest.
- Lloyd currently ranks fourth all-time for steals in a single season with 86. She is 6 away from passing Marquita Daniels 2018-19 record (92) for third most in a single season. The current single-season record is held by Daniels from the 2017-18 season with 103.
- The Rambelles are averaging 67.6 points per game, shooting 39.8 percent from the field (7th), 29.2 percent from three (10th), and 70.4 percent from the free throw line (9th).
- The 67.6 points per contest is the fifth best mark in the LSC, on the defensive end, the Rambelles hold opponents to 61.3 points a game (6th in the LSC).
- As a team the Rambelles hold opponents to a 34.5 clip from the field, that is the 9th best in NCAA DII women's basketball and the best mark in the conference.
ANGELO STATE vs WEST TEXAS A&M
- The Lady Buffs were a first-round exit in the LSC Tournament last week as they were bested by UT Tyler 75-54 on Thursday.
- During the regular season the two sides split a pair of games, the home team winning each contest.
- McGhee-Pleasant led the Rambelles in the 60-53 home victory the first time the teams played, scoring 22 points and pulling in 12 rebounds.
- Stephens, Lloyd, and McGhee-Pleasant all scored in double-digits the second time around, but the Lady Buffs had five in double figures led by 23 points from Azia Himeur to down the Rambelles 80-63.
- Nyalam Thabach is a name to watch for the Lady Buffs, she has led them in scoring in two of their last three contests, including a 30-point outing in a victory over Lubbock.
- The teams last met in the South Central Regional was in 2019 where the Rambelles downed the Lady Buffs 73-70 in Canyon.
SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL FIELD
(4) Colorado School of Mines vs (5) UT Tyler
- The Rambelles would play the winner of this matchup on Saturday, Mar. 11th at 7:30 p.m. should they best West Texas A&M in round one.
- UTT was a second-round exit in the conference tournament after losing to the Rambelles in the semifinals.
- CSM enters the South Central Regional after making it to the RMAC Championship game, losing a tight 65-61 battle with (3) Regis.
(2) Texas Woman's vs (7) Lubbock Christian
- TWU both regular season contests between the two sides, 64-53 and 70-51, and most recently shot 55 percent from the field and 72 percent from three-point range to down the Lady Chaps 84-49 in the semifinals of the LSC Tournament.
- The Pioneers are the highest seed in their history in the NCAA DII Tournament.
(3) Regis vs (6) Black Hills
- The Rangers and Yellowjackets split the regular season series, with the home team winning each contest.
- Regis was the RMAC regular season champions and won the RMAC tournament last week 65-61 over Colorado School of Mines.
POSTSEASON AWARDS
- Lloyd was named the Academic Player of the Year after finishing the regular season ranking top ten in multiple statistical categories all while finishing an undergrad degree in Exercise Science and beginning her master's in Coaching, Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Administration. Lloyd finished fifth in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game and held the best assist/turnover ratio in the conference at 2.2.
- Lloyd earned Defensive Player of the Year recognition as well after leading the conference during the regular season with 80 steals, averaging 2.9 per game. The junior guard also pulled in 7.7 rebounds per contest, ranking ninth best in the LSC.
- Lloyd was also named to the First Team All-LSC and was joined by McGhee-Pleasant McGhee-Pleasant led the Rambelles in scoring and rebounding en route to her First Team selection. The Kinesiology major is averaging the third most points, 16.3, and rebounds, 8.8, in the conference.
- Stephens earned a Second Team All-LSC nod after averaging 13.6 points per game on 49.3 percent shooting. Stephens, also made an impact on the glass, averaging 7.8 boards per contest.
- Morrow rounded out the awards for the Blue and Gold with her selection to the LSC All-Freshman team. Morrow, stepped into a large role in her first season for the Rambelles and averaged 4.3 points and 2.4 boards a game.
LSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
- McGhee-Pleasant earned her third player of the week award (first defensive) after leading the Rambelle defense that allowed only 55 points on 27.9 percent shooting in their sole game in the last week of the regular season.
- Lloyd earned her second offensive player of the week award and sixth total after averaging 25 points per game against Texas Woman's and UT Tyler. Lloyd set a career mark in an upset with over fourth-ranked TWU, scoring 34 points on an efficient 13-22 shooting.
- Lloyd and McGhee-Pleasant were named the LSC defensive and offensive players of the week after the Rambelles downed West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian earlier in the season, marking Lloyd's third consecutive defensive player of the week and her fifth overall.
- Lloyd was recognized with her fourth player of the week honor after filling up the stat sheet against Eastern and Western New Mexico. She averaged 15 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals, being named the defensive player of the week for the third time.
- Lloyd earned her third LSC player of the week honor after wins over UTPB and Schreiner before the winter break. This included a contest with a career high 17 rebounds (vs UTPB) followed up by a season high six steal game against Schreiner.
- Stephens and Lloyd were named the Lone Star Conference offensive and defensive players of the week following their efforts in the wins over TAMUK, TAMIU in week four.
- McGhee-Pleasant scored 21 points and pulled in eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week in the third week of the season.
- Payton Brown had a 13-point, six rebound, and three steal game that saw her honored as the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week after the Rambelles upset win over Eckerd College in week three.
- Lloyd averaged 22 points and eight rebounds as she was named the Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week in week one.
