LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles claimed their fourth straight victory, avenging a loss from just a few weeks ago, defeating UT Permian Basin on Jan. 29 in Odessa. The win also puts the team back in the Lone Star Conference playoff picture as the No. 7 seed if the season were to end at the time of this preview's publishing.

Majik Esquivel led all scorers with 15 points, adding four rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal. Landry Morrow recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Grona and Kenna Wood chipped in nine points apiece while combining for 15 rebounds.

SCOUTING WNMU
Last Meeting:
Feb. 1, 2025 (San Angelo, Texas - ASU 82-44)
A complete team effort was made as the Belles forced 34 turnovers and won the rebounding battle 42-33 in the previous matchup against the Mustangs, just over a year ago.

Western New Mexico enters the weekend with a winless 0-19 overall record and 0-13 in LSC play. The Mustangs previously dropped a couple of home contests to Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International.

Offensively, the Mustangs average 54.3 points per game while shooting 33.2 percent from the field, 27.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 65.2 percent from the free throw line. The offense is led by Jordan Sapien, who paces the team at 13.3 points per game, with Teeya Gordon providing a strong nine points per game off the bench.

Defensively, WNMU allows just over 80 points per game, which includes allowing 48.9 percent of shots from the field. Furthermore, the Falcons average over 32 rebounds per game, led by Gordon and Naomi Kimble, who each average over five a game.

SCOUTING SRSU
Last Meeting:
Jan. 30, 2025 (San Angelo, Texas - ASU 97-60)
Last year, the Belles pieced together a balanced attack to defeat the Lobos. Keniah Williams recorded a double-double while Briley Merket and Majik Esquivel each reached double-digit points. As a team, ASU outrebounded the SRSU 61-39 while winning the turnover battle 15-10.

Sul Ross State enters the weekend with a 3-15 overall record and 2-10 in LSC play. The Lobos have won two of their last four games, having picked up a four-point win at home over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Jan. 31.

Offensively, the Lobos average 57.2 points per game while shooting 32.1 percent from the field, 24.7 percent from beyond the arc and 73.9 percent from the free throw line. The offense is balanced as SRSU has three players averaging double-digit points, led by Sophiya Bustillos (12 PPG) and closely followed by Leslie Mojica (11.4) and Victoria Aguayo (10.9).

Defensively, SRSU allows 74.2 points per game, which includes allowing 43.7 percent of shots from the field. Furthermore, the Lobos average over 36 rebounds per game, led by Aguayo, who paces the team with 8.6 per game individually.

RAMBLINGS ABOUT THE RAMBELLES
QUICK HITS

- Majik Esquivel leads the Rambelles in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game, which is among the leaders in the Lone Star Conference.

- Esquivel, along with Taylor Grona, Landry Morrow and Tristin Keller, has been disruptive defensively, combining for 105 steals total this season.

- Senior center Keniah Williams has recorded three double-doubles thus far this season in the matchups against Western Colorado, Pitt State and most recently, Emporia State. She now has 16 double-doubles in her collegiate career.

- The Rambelles find themselves among the conference leaders in a few categories, including Blocked Shots Per Game (4.3), Defensive Field Goal Percentage (35.8), Offensive Rebounding Average (13.7), and Total Rebounding Average (38.8).

THE COUNTDOWN TO 100 (at ASU)
Head coach Alesha Ellis is on the brink of a major milestone as she enters her fifth season leading the Rambelles. She sits just 12 wins away from reaching 100 victories at Angelo State University. The former Texas Tech Red Raider has compiled an impressive career record of 277–105 over 12 seasons, including an 88–53 mark in over four seasons at ASU.

FEELING MAJIK-AL
Majik Esquivel was named Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Jan. 12 after leading the Rambelles to a two-game sweep in Oklahoma. She scored 27 points in a win over Cameron and followed with a career-high 38 points against Oklahoma Christian. She shot 47% from the field over the weekend and was a perfect 13 for 13 from the free-throw line. Furthermore, the Lubbock native also added seven rebounds, three steals and one assist across the two games

KENIAH'S CROWN
Keniah William was named Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Dec. 22 after she totaled 35 points while leading the Rambelles to back-to-back victories over Texas A&M International and Emporia State to snap a five-game skid. She posted a career-high 25 points against Emporia State and recorded her third double-double of the season against the Lady Hornets. In addition to her offensive production, Williams made a strong impact on the defensive end, totaling 21 rebounds, eight blocks, three assists and one steal across the two contests.

EXPERIENCE TO SHARE
After fielding one of her youngest squads last season, head coach Alesha Ellis enters the 2025–26 campaign with a veteran-heavy roster. The Rambelles feature five seniors, one junior, five sophomores, and just two freshmen, giving the team a strong balance of leadership and youthful energy.

NEW FACES, NEW VIBES
The Rambelles welcome four newcomers to the roster this season, highlighted by Division I transfers Tristin Keller (Abilene Christian) and Stevi Lockheart (Lindenwood). They'll be joined by freshmen Halle Hughes, a standout from Christoval High School, and Dragana Scepanovic, a promising European addition who brings international experience to the squad.

2024-25 SEASON RECAP
The story of the Rambelles' 18–12 record in the 2024-25 campaign was one defined by streaks. Angelo State opened the season 2–0 before hitting a three-game skid, only to respond with an 11-game winning streak that propelled them back into contention. A late stretch of ups and downs — two losses, three wins, six losses, and two more victories — ultimately led to a first-round exit in the NCAA South Central Regional at the hands of Texas Woman's University.
