SAN ANGELO –
Junior Paige Weishuhn tallied a season-high 22 points and senior Camille Perkins drained 20 points as Angelo State defeated Lone Star Conference rival Abilene Christian, 67-63, at the Junell Center Saturday evening. The Belles never trailed after 17 minutes into the game as they improved to 11-8 on the season and 4-3 in LSC action. The Wildcats dropped to 7-12 on the year and 4-3 in conference play.

Weishuhn was on fire from the start as she opened the contest with a pair of jumpers on consecutive possessions. The center out of Wall, went on to collect six rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Weishuhn was perfect from beyond the arc as she went 3-for-3 and shot 69.2 percent from the floor. She helped the Belles to a six-point advantage (18-12) after she drained her first trey.

Abilene Christian fought to keep the game close as the Wildcats cut the Rambelles' lead to three (18-15) as Mack Lankford completed the three-point play with a lay-up and a free throw. However, Perkins would give ASU back its six point advantage as she knocked down a three-pointer. Perkins finished the night with 20 points, seven boards, five assists, one block and one steal. She also shot 75 percent from the charity stripe and 50 percent from three-point range.

Despite ACU's efforts, the Wildcats could not catch the Belles. Angelo State held a five-point lead (35-30) going into halftime and the Rambelles pushed their lead even further in the second half. Weishuhn was at it again in the latter 20 minutes of the game as she knocked down seven points on the Belles' first three possessions.

The Rambelles pushed their lead to as many as 15 points in the second half when Perkins laid the ball in to give Angelo State a 62-47 lead. The Wildcats tried to rally and came within five (66-61) when Lankford collected a steal and ran it back for an easy lay-up. ACU followed that with a lay-up from Autumn Whitaker cutting the Belles' lead to four (67-63). However, freshman Giselle Aguirre recorded her fourth steal of the game and let the clock run out, preserving the Rambelles' victory.

Aguirre finished the game with seven points, four steals, two assists and one rebound. Sophomore Morgan Youngblood led the Belles with eight rebounds and contributed six points in the game.

Lankford led Abilene Christian with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Kelsey Smith recorded a game-high 12 boards and added six points and one assist. Whitaker tallied nine points, four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals for the Wildcats.
