The 1957 Ram Basketball team, under the direction of the legendary Phil George, went 31-2 during the season to win the National Junior College Championship. The two losses came at the hands of senior college programs, and San Angelo College, as ASU was known then, was the only team to go undefeated in junior college play that season. The "Battling Rams" a team characterized as "too short and inexperienced to win a National Championship," knocked off Eastern Arizona University, 63-51, in the championship game in Hutchinson, Kan., to bring home the only national championship in basketball in the history of ASU.
