A native of San Antonio, Greg Stokes was a three-time All-America for the Rams during his career. The two-time Academic All-American ranks second on ASU's all-time tackle list with 434 stops from 1992-95.

His senior season was cut one-game short, however, as he was killed in car accident on
Nov. 5, 1995.  Stokes was named an All-American by six different publications that fateful season and became ASU's first-ever finalist for the prestigious Harlon Hill Trophy, the award given to the top player in NCAA Division II, finishing sixth in the national voting.

A scholarship in his name was established at ASU in 1997 and is given annually to an upperclassman on the Ram football team.  The criteria for the award requires an excellent academic record and involvement in the
San Angelo community, ideals also held by Stokes.
