Hall of Honor
During his four years as a player, Spieker helped the Rams compile an 87-29 overall record and was a two-time All-American and three-time all-conference selection. He was the last athlete to receive All-American honors in the junior college era and the first to receive All-American honors in the senior college era. A starting guard during the 1962-63 season, Spieker was fifth on the team in scoring to help his team to a conference championship and a nation-leading 27-5 overall record. The following season, he led the team in scoring and to a second straight conference title with a 16-0 record. A product of the San Angelo community, Spieker brought a strong passion for the city and the college to whichever arena he was in. He was selected as a captain by his teammates because they learned to believe in teamwork, hard work, and dedication to team from him.
