Lakey-Whitefield was a track & field star from 2006-2009. She is a three-time NCAA Division II national champion in three separate events. She won the hammer in 2007, the discus in 2008 and the shot put in 2009. Overall, she was an 11-time NCAA Division II All-American and a multiple time LSC individual champion. She holds the LSC record in the hammer and LSC meet record in the shot put. Lakey-Whitefield is also the ASU record holder in the shot put and hammer and has the top 10 throws in the shot put in ASU history. She was awarded the David Noble Award for Outstanding Female Field Athlete at the LSC Championships from 2006-08 while also being named the LSC Female Field Athlete of the Year in 2008-09. Lakey Whitefield also led ASU to two top four NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field placed including the 2009 national runner-up spot.
